Give him whatever he wants – Jose Enrique urges Liverpool to extend Salah contract

Liverpool should give Mohamed Salah whatever he wants to sign a new contract, according to Jose Enrique.

Salah has had a magnificent start to the season and moved onto six Premier League goals for the campaign with a sensational solo strike against Manchester City on Sunday.

The 29-year-old s efforts, which also included an assist for Sadio Mane s opener, was not enough to propel Liverpool to victory, however, with champions City twice fighting back in a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Liverpool were not particularly active in the recent transfer window, with Ibrahima Konate their only major addition – the centre-back joining from RB Leipzig – while Georginio Wijnaldum joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

However, the Reds did move to secure the futur…

Solskjaer hopes Ferguson presence can inspire Man Utd squad to ´take next step´

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes the presence of Sir Alex Ferguson will help inspire his Manchester United players to take the next step by winning the Europa League.

Legendary former manager Ferguson, who won 38 trophies in 26 years at Old Trafford, has travelled with the United squad to Gdansk ahead of Wednesday s final.

The Red Devils face Spanish side Villarreal and are seeking their first silverware since Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho in December 2018, initially on a caretaker basis.

It also marks just Solskjaer s second final as a manager, having won the 2013 Norwegian Cup with Molde, where he also lifted the Tippeligaen in 2011 and 2012.

After ending his curse of losing in four cup semi-finals as United boss, Solskjaer believes a first trophy fo…

Thorup takes over at Norwich after Wagner sacking

Norwich City have appointed Johannes Hoff Thorup as their new head coach on a three-year deal.

Thorup replaces David Wagner, who was sacked earlier this month following Norwich s 4-0 defeat to Leeds United in the Championship play-off semi-final.

The Dane moves from Nordsjaelland, where he took over in January 2023 after being promoted from his role as assistant coach.

He led them to a second-place finish in the Danish Superliga that season to earn a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.

In his first full campaign in charge, Thorup took them to the group stage of the European competition before finishing fourth in the Danish top-flight.

We are pleased to announce Johannes Hoff Thorup as our new head coach

Sheffield United 1-2 Chelsea: Jorginho spot-kick seals Tuchel´s third straight win

Thomas Tuchel maintained his unbeaten start to life at Chelsea as goals from Mason Mount and Jorginho sealed a 2-1 Premier League win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday.

The German s first game in charge after replacing Frank Lampard was an underwhelming 0-0 draw with Wolves, but he has now masterminded three wins on the spin to move the Blues up to fifth, one point behind fourth-place Liverpool.

They did not have it all their own way against Chris Wilder s side, however, the Yorkshire side cancelling out Mount s first-half opener after the interval courtesy of a slapstick own goal from Antonio Rudiger.

Chelsea secured all three points soon after, though, when Jorginho followed up his decisive penalty against Tottenham in midweek with anothe…

The Numbers Game: Italy´s top-of-the-table duel with three possible winners

Napoli and Milan being engaged in a title tussle means Serie A has a charmingly retro feel to it this season, with Sunday s clash of these pacesetters in Naples rich in promise.

Inter s thumping win over Salernitana on Friday means Simone Inzaghi s side hold a one-point advantage at the summit for now, and it would surely count as a massive bonus for the Nerazzurri if their Scudetto rivals cancelled each other out in the weekend s headline game.

A draw at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona would leave the top three level on 58 points, with Milan and Napoli having 10 games remaining, and Inter with 11 still to play.

Inter are chasing a second consecutive title, while Milan were last champions in 2010-11 and Napoli s only two league titles were those fuelled by…

Dybala departure unexpected, but Juventus not making a mistake – Buffon

Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon was surprised by the club s decision not to renew the contract of attacker Paulo Dybala.

However, the 44-year-old, now at Serie B side Parma, does not believe the Bianconeri have made a mistake in letting Dybala leave, noting the improvement Juventus have made under Massimiliano Allegri.

The club confirmed last month Dybala would be allowed to leave at the end of his contract in June, despite the Argentina international recording 13 goal involvements (eight goals, five assists) in 23 Serie A appearances this season.

Among Juve players, only Alvaro Morata (also eight goals and five assists), can match the 28-year-old s output this term.

I didn t expect it, Buffon told La Stampa of Dybala s departure. But the club was …

Jarrad Branthwaite not ‘wasting energy’ by dwelling on Everton points deduction

Jarrad Branthwaite says there is no point “wasting energy” by dwelling on the situation following Everton’s latest Premier League points deduction.

The Toffees were hit by their second points deduction of the season, losing a further two points, for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Everton, who were docked six points earlier this season for breaking PSR rules in the assessment period up to the 2021-22 season, have been handed another penalty for the three-year cycle to 2022-23 after admitting a breach of £16.6million.

Liverpool 0-3 Atalanta: Talking points as La Dea stun Anfield to take big step towards Europa League semifinals

Having been undefeated at Anfield this season, Liverpool fell to a shocking defeat at their iconic stadium to Atalanta in the first leg of their meeting in the quarterfinals of the Europa League on Thursday.

There were danger signs in front of Caoimhin Kelleher s goal early on, but things really started rolling downhill when Gianluca Scamacca fired past the Irish goalkeeper in the 38th minute to break the deadlock. The Atalanta striker added another one to his tally on the hour mark, and Mario Pasalic put his team practically a step away from the semifinals with a fine finish in the 83rd minute.

The woes of Liverpool

Nothing should be taken away from the performance of the Serie A side. Gian Piero Gasperini s men were obviously up for the fight, inspired rather than sc…

Srna: We are heroes after Euro 2016 qualification

Captain Darijo Srna was understandably overjoyed after Croatia secured automatic qualification for Euro 2016 on Tuesday, labelling his team-mates as national heroes.

A 1-0 win for Croatia against Malta combined with Italy s 2-1 victory over Norway saw the Balkan nation through to next year s tournament in France as runners-up to the Italians in Group H.

Croatia were two points adrift of Norway in the race for second place prior to kick-off but results went the way of Srna and Co.

Speaking afterwards via UEFA.com, Srna beamed: Today Croatian players are heroes who are doing everything they can for their country. Tonight, it s time to celebrate.

We are proud that we will listen to the Croatian anthem in France at EURO 2016.

We have a number excell…

Max Kruse won´t play again for Wolfsburg as coach Kovac ditches former Germany striker

Max Kruse has played his last match for Wolfsburg after coach Niko Kovac raised doubts about the commitment of the former Germany striker.

Kovac and sporting director Marcel Schafer said on Saturday there was no way back for 34-year-old Kruse with the Bundesliga outfit.

Wolfsburg won 1-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, getting the better of last season s Europa League winners thanks to Maxence Lacroix s header on the hour mark.

It was a first victory of the Bundesliga campaign at the sixth attempt. Former Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach forward Kruse was left out, a week after playing the full game in the 4-2 home defeat to Koln.

We demand 100 per cent identification, concentration and focus on Wolfsburg from all players. We didn t have t…
