Pavard questioned his Bayern future amid transfer interest

France international Benjamin Pavard might have left Bayern Munich in the last transfer window, if not for a conversation with Julian Nagelsmann.

Pavard helped France win the World Cup in 2018 and joined Bayern from fellow Bundesliga club Stuttgart a year later.

The versatile defender, who can play at centre-back or full-back, has been a regular for the Bundesliga champions and, if he is fit, is likely to be part of Didier Deschamps France squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

Pavard has featured eight times in all competitions for Bayern this season, scoring twice, though with Bayern signing right-back Noussair Mazraoui and centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, he revealed he came close to leaving the club, and may well have done if not for Nagelsmann.

Valverde´s Barcelona match Guardiola´s unbeaten start

Barcelona were made to work for victory over Alaves on Sunday but late goals from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi saw them equal a club record.

Ernesto Valverde s men remain 11 points clear at the summit and their streak of 21 games unbeaten represents Barcelona s best run from the start of a LaLiga season.

Pep Guardiola s 2009-10 title-winning side won 17 and drew four over the course of their streak, but Messi s exquisite free-kick means Vlaverde s vintage have 18 victories and three draws to their name.

Messi is represented across the three best returns, with Tito Vilanova s Barca going 19 games without defeat from the outset in 2012-13.

21 Barcelona have equaled their longest unbeaten start to a league campaign in their history (W18 D3); under Pep Guar…

Cardiff boss Erol Bulut pleased with Rubin Colwill’s reply to recent criticism

Cardiff boss Erol Bulut savoured a Severnside derby victory as Rubin Colwill replied to recent criticism from his manager with a first league goal for 19 months.

The Wales international’s first league goal since March 2022 – cutting between two defenders before rifling a ferocious angled drive in to the roof of the net – came after Bulut said he had a problem with him and team-mate Callum Robinson over their work-rate.

Bulut said: “I was clear what I wanted from those two players. Offensively they are good.

“We saw again from Colwill a great goal, last game Robinson scored and also worked a lot…

Alan Shearer expects Erling Haaland to break his record for the number of goals scored in a single Premier League season – should the Manchester City striker remain fit.

Having made a big impact during spells in Austria and Germany with Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund respectively, Haaland has already set a number of records at new club City.

The Norway international became the first player in Premier League history to score hat-tricks in three successive home matches with his latest treble against Manchester United on Sunday.

The 22-year old has 14 goals in his first eight appearances in the competition, which is just one fewer than City s top-scorer Kevin De Bruyne managed across the entirety of last season.

Haaland is averaging a goal every 48 minutes…

´He didn´t extend until 2026 for nothing´ – Klopp has no intention or quitting Liverpool, says agent

Jurgen Klopp has no intention of quitting Liverpool before his contract expires in 2026, according to his agent Marc Kosicke.

Liverpool have endured a tough time of things in Klopp s seventh full campaign in charge at Anfield as they find themselves ninth in the Premier League after 12 matches.

They are unbelievable together – Ben White hails Arsenal’s centre-back pairing

Arsenal defender Ben White has hailed the influence centre-backs William Saliba and Gabriel are having on the Gunners’ season.

The form of the pair has helped Arsenal to the top of the table with the joint-best defensive record and although they did not manage to keep out Liverpool, with whom they share the record, the security they offered gave the visitors the confidence to take a positive approach in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Anfield.

A week ago a struggling Manchester United side left Liverpool with a point after a dour defensive display in which the home side had 34 attempts on goal.

By contrast Arsenal restricted Liverpool to 13, the same as they had themselves.

“They are unbelievable together. They are so strong and powerful. They make it easier…

Rodri insists Man City have learned from past failures in Champions League

Manchester City have learned from past failures in Europe as they prepare to face Inter Milan in the Champions League final, according to Rodri.

City were beaten to the trophy in 2021 by Chelsea after a 1-0 defeat in Porto before throwing away a late lead to crash out against Real Madrid in the semi-final a year ago.

Afternoon, Bernardo!
