Premier League ‘appalled’ by abuse of referee Anthony Taylor at airport

The Premier League has joined refereeing body PGMOL in condemning abuse directed at Anthony Taylor after video footage emerged of him being accosted by angry fans at Budapest Airport.

Taylor and his family can be seen trying to evade a mob, who were shouting at him as he travelled home after refereeing Wednesday night’s Europa League final between Roma and Sevilla in the Hungarian capital.

A Premier League spokesperson said it was “shocked and appalled by the abuse suffered by Taylor, whilst PGMOL described the incident as “unjustified and abhorrent”.

The Premier League official was criticised for his performance in the final by Roma boss Jose Mourinho during his post-match press conference after the Italian side lost on penalties to Sevilla.

Cavani: I always try to respect PSG

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has reaffirmed his loyalty to the French champions amid talk of a possible departure at season s end.

Cavani has been a maligned figure since swapping Napoli for PSG in 2013, with the Uruguay international criticised for going missing in the big matches.

The 29-year-old has also played second-fiddle to star team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the French capital, reportedly alerting the likes of Manchester United.

Cavani, however, returned to form with the winner against Chelsea in last week s Champions League fixture, followed by a goal in PSG s Ligue 1 rout of Reims.

And the 72-cap Uruguay international insisted he will continue to give his all for PSG, who are on track to sweep all five trophies on offer this sea…

Mbia hopes for QPR return

Sevilla midfielder Stephane Mbia hopes to return to Queens Park Rangers for the start of next season.

The Cameroon international was sent out on loan after the Championship club were relegated from the top flight at the end of 2012-13.

Mbia, 27, said he was unsure what would happen, but has set his sights on a return to England at season s end.

Yes, I want to return to QPR, he told Perform.

After, can the leaders do anything for me to come back?

I would see at the end of the season in Seville what will happen. And then I decide with my agent and the leaders of Seville which of course want to keep me from the beginning of the year.

Mbia is likely to be named in the Cameroon squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, with his nation drawn to fac…

Arsenal sack Emery: Five things next Gunners boss must address

Unai Emery paid the price for Arsenal s stuttering form on Friday but his dismissal alone will not fix the club s problems.

The Gunners are in danger of finishing outside the top four for a fourth consecutive season, with the gap already eight points.

Emery himself had matters to address when he succeeded Arsene Wenger in May 2018, though it appears he made little headway on that front.

Whoever follows in the Spaniard s footsteps must act with more haste to deal with a growing list of concerns that are holding back a club once seen as perennial Premier League title challengers.

Here we take a look at the most pressing areas to focus on for whoever takes the helm at the Emirates Stadium.

Who should win the PFA Player of the Year?

Chelsea s N Golo Kante is favourite to win PFA Player of the Year

The nominees for the PFA Player of the Year have been announced and there are very few surprises in the six names announced.

Last year’s Player of the Year was Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez who helped the Foxes win the Premier League title.

The winner of this year’s award could also come from the team that wins the title.

Here is the list of nominees for this year’s award:

Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

The brilliant Belgian has been back to close to his best this season, scoring 14 goals and providing five assists helping his side to the top of the Premier League table and likely the title.

Outgoing City boss Pellegrini open to Premier League stay

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to remain in the Premier League once he leaves the club at the end of the campaign, with the Chilean open to working outside of the big four clubs.

Pellegrini will be replaced by Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola at season s end and while the 2013-14 Premier League-winning manager has attracted interest from around Europe, he is desperate to stay in England.

The 62-year-old, who enjoyed success with mid-table La Liga clubs Villarreal and Malaga prior to arrive at the Etihad, has been linked with Valencia as well as Chelsea, but Pellegrini is willing to join a smaller club in a similar mould to Premier League leaders Leicester City.

I always remember when I finished with Real Madrid that I had lot of different opti…

Richarlison signs new Everton deal

Everton forward Richarlison has signed a new deal that will keep him at Goodison Park until 2024.

The 22-year-old was signed from Watford in July 2018 for a fee that could rise to £50million and has largely impressed during his time on Merseyside.

He scored 13 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions last season, while his header in Sunday s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City took his tally to six in the current term.

Marco Silva s side are languishing in 17th in the Premier League after picking up just four wins from their opening 14 games.

I intend to be here a long time, Richarlison told evertontv. This was the club which gave me the opportunity to show my football.

PSG favourites in new-look Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain look set to dominate the French top flight again after bolstering their impressive squad with added defensive quality.

The French champions won Ligue 1 at a canter last time out as they held off Monaco to lift their fourth domestic title by nine points.

Laurent Blanc s men also won the Coupe de la Ligue, with the only remaining question mark against the Parisian side being their European record.

Since the club s takeover in 2011, PSG have yet to get past the quarter-finals in the UEFA Champions League, but Blanc has strengthened his defence in an attempt to further boost domestic and continental ambitions.

David Luiz and Serge Aurier have arrived at the Parc des Princes and failing an improved challenge from Monaco both look set to …

Plymouth get debt deadline

League One club Plymouth Argyle have just two months to clear their debts or face the potential of liquidation.

The club, and companies it owns, owe Her Majesty s Revenue and Customs a tax debt of 760,000 pounds and staved off a winding-up petition at the High Court on Wednesday.

Plymouth told the court an investor is ready to commit 500,000 pounds to the club and they are in the process of refinancing, which won them 63 days grace instead of the 56 they asked for.

Plymouth, managed by Peter Reid, claim they are also owed money, making it easier to pay off accrued debt.

The club also said they could raise funds by the sale of players in the January transfer window.

The board and its advisors are continuing to work through a number of potential a…

Zaha as good as Ibrahimovic and Cavani, says Cabaye

Yohan Cabaye heaped praise on Crystal Palace team-mate Wilfried Zaha, claiming the former Manchester United winger has the quality to fit in at French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Zaha has put a nightmare spell at United behind him as he prepares to face his old club in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

The 23-year-old made just two Premier League appearances for United in 2013-14 before returning to boyhood club Palace two years ago.

Zaha has regained his best form, impressing ex-PSG midfielder Cabaye, who believes the Englishman would not be out of place alongside the likes of now former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.

For me Wilfried is an unbelievable player.  He has a big, big talent and is still young, Cabaye said.
